If You Are Pregnant... The safest choice is to not drink alcohol when you are pregnant or could become pregnant. There is NO known safe amount, safe time, or safe kind of alcohol to drink when you are pregnant. If you are pregnant and have been drinking alcohol, it is not too late to stop.

When women drink alcohol during pregnancy their children can have a lot of life-long problems called fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD).
Individuals with FASD can have delays, learning problems, or mental retardation; problems with attention, communication, and social and behavior issues; have unusual sensory sensitivity to things such as touch; be small at birth and have trouble gaining weight; and can have physical problems such as heart trouble.
Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is one of a number of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD). A child with FAS has cognitive problems, is small in size, and has facial differences.
